Taiwan RoHSFrom July 1, 2017 the presence of restricted substances in certain products must be clearly marked on the product, packaging, label, or instruction booklet in accordance with Taiwan RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) standard CNS 15663.

In addition to the safety and EMC mandatory conformity assessments, from July 1, automatic data processing machines, printers, photo-copying machines, televisions, monitors and monitors used in automatic data processing must indicate the presence of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, PBB and PBDE and must follow the new inspection requirements from this date.

Background

RoHS requirements are established in Taiwan via Standard CNS 15663, initially published on July 30, 2013, and which constitutes a voluntary guidance for the reduction of restricted chemical substances in electrical and electronic equipment, applicable to electrical and electronic equipment with supplied power under AC 1000 V or under DC 1500 V. The Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) may add RoHS compliance requirements to the mandatory conformity assessment scheme for Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) products which are subject to mandatory inspection under the Conformity Inspection Act.

On December 29, 2015 BSMI published inspection requirements requiring the presence of restricted substances in certain products to be clearly marked on the product, packaging, label or instruction booklet in accordance with Taiwan RoHS Standard CNS 15663. The Bureau introduced mandatory requirements for 6 types of products, to be implemented with effect from July 1, 2017: automatic data processing machines, printers, photo-copying machines, televisions, monitors, and monitors used in automatic data processing equipment.

RoHS marking will become mandatory for further product types from January 1, 2018.
